Inca Trail:
Regarding to the Inca
Trail, in the last few years the government authorities
have restricted the number of people allowed on the Inca
Trail. They have limited the number of trek permits
issued each day to 500 (about 300 for porters and trekking
staff and about 200 for tourists). Unfortunately there are
no longer any trek permits left for any of the days in May,
June, July or the first 2 weeks in August, they are completely
sold out so no company can offer you space in their Inca Trail
group. Trekking companies have not block-booked these dates
since permits can only be issued when the name and passport
number of each tourist is provided. These details cannot be
changed and even if a tourist cancels their reservation the
government does not permit that space to be re-sold to another
person. So basically if you are looking to do the Inca Trail
before mid-August you are already too late.
