Day 1: City Tour and
Visit to Nearby Ruins |
Assistance upon arrival in Cusco and transfer to your hotel
where you will have some free time to take a short rest to
be acclimatized to the altitude as on reaching heights above
3000m, heart pounding and shortness of breath are a normal
response to the lack of oxygen in the air.
In the afternoon, city tour of Cusco visiting the
Main Square, the Cathedral of Cusco and the
Korikancha or Temple of the Sun; pass by the
Hatunrumiyoc Street where the twelve-angled stone
is located and then continue the tour visiting some of the
most important Inca ruins surrounding the city: the fortress
of Sacsayhuaman, the ceremonial center of Kenko, the
Puca Pucara fortress and the Inca Baths or
Tambomachay. |
Day 2: Excursion to
Machu Picchu |
You will be picked up from your hotel At 05:45
, transfer to the train station where you'll get
the train which leaves at 06:00. Arrival to the Aguas
Calientes Train Station around 09:10, from where
you take a 15 minute bus ride to the ruins of Machu
Picchu. The ruins are on the eastern slope of Machu
Picchu in two separate areas: the agricultural and the urban.
Guided sightseeing through the archaeological site
of Machu Picchu visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular
Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial (the greatest Intihuatana), the
Royal Quarters, the Temple of Three Windows and various
burial grounds. Time free to stroll by the archaeological
site. Lunch at a restaurant at Aguas Calientes town.
Late afternoon return to Cusco Train Station. Pick
up upon arrival and transfer to your hotel. Overnight. |
Day 3: Excursion to
the Sacred Valley |
After breakfast, the excursion will take you to the
Sacred Valley of the Incas, a succession of picturesque
towns, agricultural terraces and archaeological sites. First
you will visit Pisac, with its typical market, and picturesque
cultivated terraces in the mountain slopes, also famous for
its Sunday Fairs where you will be able to appreciate and
buy beautiful handicraft. Lunch at a local restaurant in the
Sacred Valley. Continue up the Urubamba Valley
to the highlight of this day, a visit to the Town
of Ollantaytambo. The upper section of Ollantaytambo
features a fortress made up of a series of carved stone terraces
built to protect the valley from possible invasion by warring
jungle tribes. After visiting the town and fortress of Ollantaytambo
the excursion will continue to the village of Chinchero
where the remains of what was the royal hacienda of
Tupac Inca Yupanqui lie. After this splendid excursion
to the Sacred Valley of the Incas you will
return to your hotel. |
Day 04: Cusco / Lima |
Transfer to the Cusco Airport to board your flight back
to Lima. End of services. |
