Baggage

Q.: Where do I store my baggage while traveling on PeruRail?

A.: Passengers may store their baggage in the baggage car on the train. Upon arrival, please present your belongings to the baggage counter. There is also space inside the passenger cars for a small handbag or backpack per passenger.*

Q.: May I take my bicycle with me on the train?

A.: Yes, simply take your bicycle to the baggage counter upon arrival.

Q.: Do I need to tip porters?

A.: Tipping porters or baggage handling personnel is at your own discretion.  A typical tip is between 1 and 3 Soles per bag.

Q.: May I store my baggage at one of the stations?

A.: Lockers are not provided, however you may leave your luggage in a baggage storage room.*

* Please note that PeruRail cannot be held liable for lost, damaged or stolen baggage or contents of baggage.  We suggest that you do not transport valuables.

Q.: How do I purchase a ticket from within Peru?

Services Description


Hiram Bingham

Flightsperu invites you to step aboard the "Hiram Bingham" the new luxuary train service that runs from Poroy Station to Machu Picchu in 3 and a half hours.  This new service with its distinctive blue and glod livery and elegant interior upholstery in warm, inviting tones, consists of 4 cars - 2 dining cars, a bar car and a kitchen car.  

Departuring from Poroy Station (20 mins form Cusco centre) at 09h00, the Hiram Bingham gives a more leisurely star to the day than traditional departures.  Brunch is served on board and guides are present to explain points of interest on route, as well as in the Ruins at Machu Picchu on arrival at the ancient citadel.  

An afternoon tea is served in the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge located just steps from the entrance to the Ruins, and once back on board for the 18h30 departure, pre-dinner cockatils are served, accompanied by live entertainment, and afterwards a 4 course, a la carte dinner is presented in the dining cars.  

Taking the Hiram Bingham service means you can focus your attention and energy on what matters most, content in the knowledge that the logistical details of the day's trip have been taken care of by peruRail: included in the price of the ticket are the onboard meals with wine, entertainment, guides bus transfers, entrance to the Ruins and afternoon tea.

Vistadome

The quickest and most comfortable way to visit Machu Picchu. On the journey, delicious snacks, and hot and cold refreshments are included.

Renovated carriages have beautiful panoramic windows offering enhanced scenic views and photographic opportunities.

Passengers have the option of boarding and alighting in Poroy, the closest stop to Cusco, avoiding the swithchback out of / into Cusco and saving approximately half an hour off their total journey time. 

Backpacker

Created for our adventure passengers seeking comfort and security without all the frills.

The seats have been re-upholstered with indigenous fabrics, giving a touch of local flavour.

Additional storage space is available for backpacks.

Snacks are served on this service.

Andean Explorer First Class

Luxury coaches, including dining cars and an open-air observation-bar car, all decorated in exquisite elegance and style, cannot fail to charm and delight.

Onboard dining features an excellent three course lunch followed by coffee served in the observation-bar car.

Q.: When should I board my train?

A.: All passengers should board 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure.

Q.: What should I do if I have lost something?

A.: You should inform a PeruRail representative.

Q.: Do you serve refreshments on the train?

A.: A variety of food and beverages are served free, or at an additional cost, depending on the class of service.

Accessibility

Q.: What accommodation is provided for handicapped passengers or those needing special assistance?

A.: Every effort will be made to assist passengers with any need they may have.

We strongly recommend traveling in the Vistadome or the Hiram Bingham for any passenger needing special assistance.

Oxygen is provided on all trains for passengers having difficulty acclimating to the high altitudes.
